Like humans, insects communicate using multiple senses including sight, touch, taste, hearing, and smell. For insects, however, much of their communication is via smells, or olfactory cues. When trying to deal with insect pests in the garden, we can minimize the use of insecticides by interfering with an insect’s signaling and thus change its behavior to our benefit.
